Course Description

The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) American Mathematics Competitions (AMC)  are a series of examinations and curriculum that help students build their problem solving skills and expand their mathematical knowledge. THE AMC are the first in a series of competitions that will determine the United States team for the International Math Olympiad (IMO). The competitions are fun and engaging and challenge student’s classroom skills in a friendly and low stress environment.

At Ivy Sage Academy, we are pleased to offer classes to prepare students for the AMC 8, the  first in the series of AMC competitions. The AMC 8  is a math competition designed specifically for middle schoolers (grades 6-8; students must be younger than 14.5 years old on the day of competition) The AMC 8 is designed to foster a love for mathematics, promote the growth of  analytical skills, and encourage strong team building skills.

In preparing for the AMC 8, our middle school students will cover a wide breadth of topics: probability, word problems, sequencing, series, estimation, spatial visualization, reading and interpreting graphs and tables and basic geometric and algebraic concepts.  Students will meet with our AMC 8 competition manager regularly to prepare for competition.
