TIME FOR KIDS GRADE 5
Time for kids is a program we recommend here at IvySage to better expose trusted and age appropriate articles that helps to enhance news literacy to the classroom. While reading fiction is important, “Time for Kids” emphasizes the importance of reading nonfiction material as well. In this regard, children will have a chance to learn about the world around them and the ongoing issues it faces everyday. Within these articles are interviews with experts of their field shedding light on newsworthy events such as the ongoing pandemic. By delving into real life stories, children will learn to analyze and form an educated opinion and stance on important issues that occur around the world. “Time for Kids” is available for varying ages and skill levels. Within the Grade 5 “Time for Kids” book, the curriculum covers Greek and Latin word roots, suffixes, problems and solutions, and more!

Teacher Profile
Kristen McLewin is a seasoned teacher with a B.A. in English Education and a M.S. in Education - Reading Across the Content Areas. She’s been teaching for 26 years, with 14 of those in a full-time, public school program. She holds a WA State Teaching Credential with endorsements in 4-12 English, K-12 ELL, and K-8 Elementary. During the school year, she teaches 8th grade English and World History for Washington Virtual Academies through Omak School District in Washington State.
